What are Mega Stones in Pokemon Champions?

Mega Stones are held items in the Pokemon video games that allow specific Pokemon to Mega Evolve. This temporary transformation physically alters the Pokemon’s appearance, and changes things such as stats, typing, and their ability.

Several Mega Stones were first introduced in Pokemon X & Y back on the 3DS, before the titles Pokemon Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire added more. While Mega Stones were in Pokemon Sun & Moon, the mechanic didn’t return until Pokemon Legends Z-A for the Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2. Do You Need Nintendo Switch Online for Pokemon Champions?

No, you do not need an active Nintendo Switch Online account to play Pokemon Champions. Much like some other online titles, such as Pokemon Unite, Fortnite, and Rocket League, you can play Pokemon Champions online with just an active internet connection.

Thankfully, no content is gated either, with every online multiplayer mode open to all players, whether they have an active Nintendo Switch Online membership or not.

But, with so many Pokémon games and the added complexity of the Pokémon Home service, it's not entirely straightforward. So, here is a quick guide covering how to move Pokémon into Pokémon Home and then into Pokémon Champions.

How To Use Pokémon Home

If you are picking up Pokémon Champions for the very first time and want to move a Pokémon over from a different game, you will find that you need an additional service to make this happen. Pokémon Home is an interim app that allows you to host Pokémon from a multitude of different Pokémon games and send them back to compatible titles.

You can download Pokémon Home for either Switch or for mobile devices, but you will need the Switch version to transfer Pokémon from any of the Switch titles into Pokémon Champions.
