Anyone else just completely given up on new MMOs and gone back to something ancient?

1 April 2026 at 18:38

T&L was a disaster, tried New World again like an idiot, Tarisland lasted about a week before I uninstalled. Every single one just funnels you through the same corridor of quest markers and tutorials that won't end.

What are people actually playing right now that has at least a pulse?

Elder Scrolls Online - Naval Combat, Underwater Exploration, Difficulty Changes, Solo Dungeons, return to Skyrim, and more

Elder Scrolls Online - Naval Combat, Underwater Exploration, Difficulty Changes, Solo Dungeons, return to Skyrim, and more

Overall, this is the most excited for ESO I've been in a long time. I've been outspoken in support for mmorpgs leaning more into ship travel and water based content for awhile now. Even mentioning it in a few of my ESO posts on this subreddit.

This is the kind of experimentation that not only the game needs, but the genre needs. Really hyped for the future ahead with this game.

EDIT: After looking into it some more, do temper your expectations around Naval Combat and Underwater Exploration. https://youtu.be/itUbAx7_KbE?t=1280 is the link to that part. But expecting something along the lines of Archeage or Guild Wars 2 may not be right. So just a warning. You may not be able to actually swim around or drive a ship. They haven't confirmed anything yet, but based on that footage; it may not be that. At least not yet. The footage looks like its in early in the life cycle. So it could become that. But until things are confirmed, I'd advise tempering the expectations.

PSA: Star Sonata 2 seems to have an undisclosed breach and they store passwords in PLAINTEXT

PSA: Star Sonata 2 seems to have an undisclosed breach and they store passwords in PLAINTEXT

I just received a blackmail email to a unique, disposable email address that I used exclusively for Star Sonata 2. I Google'd to see if there's any public knowledge of a data breach and couldn't find any relevant results.

The fact that the attackers have my password in plaintext means the devs aren't salting or hashing passwords which is a massive security red flag.

This is a friendly reminder to change your password if you played Star Sonata 2 and in general to not reuse passwords.

Edit: I use randomly generated passwords per site and thus can tell that my site-specific password was leaked.

What do players look for in an MMORPG?

What do players look for in an MMORPG?

Hello everyone! I’ve been developing an MMORPG for a few months now. I’ve been playing games especially RPGs and MMORPGs for many years, and I have lots of ideas about what I want for this game, but I’d like to hear from the community. I’m a bit of an old-school gamer; I used to play Lineage 2, Hellbreath, Diablo, and so on a lot. What do you look for in an MMORPG these days to make it appealing to you?

Did parts of older MMOs implicitly require cooperation?

1 April 2026 at 13:46

Something I’ve been thinking about is how older MMOs sometimes had parts of the open world that implicitly required cooperation.

Certain areas weren’t designed to be tackled alone. Whether it was mob density, difficulty, or just how encounters worked, players would often end up grouping β€” sometimes intentionally, sometimes just because it was the practical way to get through.

Modern games tend to lean much more toward self-reliance. Most content can be completed solo, and grouping is usually something you opt into rather than something the world quietly encourages.

That solves a lot of accessibility problems, but it does change how players interact.

Did those shared β€œyou probably shouldn’t be here alone” spaces unintentionally create more cooperation? And when those disappeared, did something important go with them?

Can't remember the name of an Old Anime Mmorpg for mobile

1 April 2026 at 11:16

Hi everyone, been trying to track down an old favorite of mine, but I can't remember the name of it.

It looked veeerrryyy similar to honor of kings, however it definitely wasn't a Moba.

There were floors you had to clear, and one of the playable classes was this blonde guy with two laser pistols, and was very acrobatic.

If anyone knows the game please let me know!

PSO2 NEW GENESIS April 2026 Update Information (1)

1 April 2026 at 08:22
PSO2 NEW GENESIS April 2026 Update Information (1)

Most of what's coming in the first half of April. Text for those who don't want to watch the video:

*4/1*

*Chapter 8, Altered Realm Arc*: The trio is sent to investigate the disappearance of the Research Team in the Altered Realm. There they find an unknown girl in strang clothing, facing off against ARKS Defenders who are seemingly possessed or infected by Starless matter.

*Limited Time Quest: Invasion on the Shifting Sands.* 8 player gauntlet style quest. Venture deep into the uncharted territory of the Altered Realm's "North Desert Area". New High enemies, High Gillnach & High Granmizer appear.

*Slayer update, new weapons, new Skill Rings:* Slayer gets a new Active Skill, Potency buffs for all of it's Photon Arts, changes to some of it's Photon Art Customizations, and changes to cancel timing for various attacks.

14* Arbaradio weapons are added. Gather materials from the limited time quest(and other future content), to upgrade the Leafladio weapons to a new stage. The Leafladio themselves are made by upgrading Spradio. With enough materials you can jump straight from the first stage to the third. And for those unaware, weapons upgraded in this manner retain all previous upgrades. Augments, Fixa, and multi-weapon status. They gain higher base attack and an additional Potential Effect.

As for the skill rings, one has an effect triggered by getting Downs while the other two both enhance your Photon Blast power and charge rate.

*Various Improvements and Features*: Bunch of QoL and UI Improvements, and some nee build options for Creative Space.

*AC Scratch Ticket: Echoes of Idola '26*: Idol themed outfits for Jasper, Stella, Windis, and Quna from Idola: Phantasy Star Saga, in addition to a bunch of other cosmetics. Log in during the campaign to get acrylic stand build parts & posters for free.

(I'm genuinely more interested in the posters than 99% of the items shown, which is a first.)

*4/7*

*Major Target Suppression Mission: Luther, False Conqueror Manifest*: MTSMs are missions where the devs take a big boss, amp up it's stats(including attack speed), give it a bunch of new attacks, cut your party size in half, cut your alloted quest time by 75%, and gives you five lives shared between the entire team. You need a lot of skill to beat these(when they are new and you aren'tjust outleveling them), and good gear will make a massive difference. Also, unlike most battles, these have HP fixed at the maximum party count.

So most people aren't going to even try. Most who do will fail, repeatedly. But any teams(or single, absolutely fucking insane players) who can consistently clear this will have the opportunity to make absurd amounts of money. Or make their gear stronger, whatever floats your boat. Big guy drops materials for a new BoS augment, and those always go for a pretty penny.

*Limited Time Quest: Invasion on Shifting Sands update*: New route, addition of Mobile Cannon ALR to spice things up. Rapid fire, boosted movement, tons of homing missiles for a Photon Art, if I recall correctly.

*New equipment, Skills Rings, and Augment*: Legend.4 Rarity Lexio weapons have s chance to drop from Malevolent Luther(and other future content). The new chase weapon that builds up stocks based on total damage dealt, then spends those stocks to recover HP, launch follow up attacks, and increase your Critical Potency for a while.

The new skill rings complement that by increasing your Potency and recovering your HP & PP after 30 hits(with a cooldown). Notably these rings are also just generally useful for several classes, maybe all of them. Gunner, Ranger & Fighter especially can easily maintain high hit counts.

And the new augment is C/Telphia Domina, made by fusing 10 Ultia Dominas and 50 of the new capsule Luther is dropping.

*Limited Time Enemy, Ido Rappy*:. Just, Rappies are temporarily dressed up. I don't know why this needed it's own separate section of the vid.

*Mission Pass: NGS Season 55*: Same old, same old.

*New Build Parts*: Color variants for items in the Elegant line, some fireplaces(finally), and more.

*SG Scratch Ticket Additional Items: Refined Form April '26*: Total Totalwear of the Kvaris quintuplets, an NGS-Spec version of Merlett Carina, and more.

And I believe that's everything that was in the vid. Later.

Oh, and an additional note to maybe save me and some mod some time:

My worst and most absurd drama that I have ever seen in any MMO.

31 March 2026 at 16:30

Since there are is a rule against witch hunting, I will respect that and all the names and guilds names have been changed. Sorry if any guild or person happens to share the same name. Since this story is a bit juicy, It's gonna be longer but a TLDR at the bottom.

In this game, you can be part of multiple guilds.

### 1. The intro

We start in a little unknown, private discord called McRaidFace (fake name). This guild does/did daily raids where everyone was welcome (as long as semi-viable raid build). It's not a very strict guild so the clears were messy but a lot of fun.

McRaidFace had a few commanders that teached people (and themselves) the raids. It was a lot of fun, people came by, learned the raids and left looking for a better guild. But the atmosphere was so good that the raids had 17 signups for a 10 man content. People still showed up, we did 2 raid squads to satisfy everyone.

After going for some time McRaidFace had a newer raid player that wanted to learn to command. While we do not know anything about this guy (let's call him Storm), he was given a chance. There was an experienced raider helping him but it felt Storm had to proof himself. It was hectic, he did inflate his own impact on the raid but still pretty okay for the first time.

He did command a few times more and the signups started to dwindle. His raids at the end got only 4-5 signups and people were not having a great time. Meanwhile, the same time the day before, there were 17 people signed up to join a specific commander. That specific commander even had people that joined voice to spectate and enjoy the atmosphere. :p

But Storm thought it was the day, so Storm and the other commander swapped days and the amount of signups changed days. After this, he did join/start a different guild (VonGuild - placeholder name) and became commander and officer. They ran on a different time so no problem.

### 2. Drama in McRaidFace

Storm tried again soon after and to noone surprise except Storm. It did not fill up again. So what did he do?

A) Looked at the signup process and suggest to use <discord raid bot>

B) Help to setup <discord raid bot>

C) Posted the new raids manually again

D) Spammed the discord & ingame guild to get people to signup

Correct, ||it is E. He pinged everyone and claimed to have cancer and would have an life-saving operation in a few days (a wednesday). But the operation has a 50% chance of failing & him dying on the operation table.||. The raid did in fact not get any more signups and they raided with 4 people. After this, he went fulltime to VonGuild and barely interacted with McRaidFace except to fill his own raids in VonGuild.

How did we know he was lying? He did plan a raid in VonGuild for hours after his life-saving operation to lead a raid and the day after. I guess he did not had to rest, did had not recover from his anesthesia and could plan it days ahead.

The drama ended in McRaidFace with Storm after Storm clicked a phishing link and got his discord hacked and got removed from the discord after being inactive. For some reason, he was not banned after the initial drama, only after the phishing link months later.

### 3. Drama in VonGuild

Barely anyone from McRaidFace interacted with VonGuild so this all is second-hand stories.

VonGuild was actively advertised in the ingame chat, various discords, ... so they had a lot of people joining and leaving again. Storm helped a lot of new players to get into raids and maybe spoiling their new player experience.

There was a bunch of 'minor' lies that are funny, weird & sad, like Storm claiming to have 3 birthdays in a year to gather gifts, claiming to be graduated with a masters and working and then sharing a picture of the class room. Simping on girls in 2 different discords and then being banned also. He also had a 3-day ingame ban for being anti-trans. So stuff that a lot of guilds have to deal with, usually across a few members instead of 1.

Storm led a lot of raid training, very similar to McRaidFace but only at a different time. Raiders in that guild got frustrated with the consistency of the raids and pushed Storm to create a static. Monday and Tuesday became raid static and experienced players were forced into the raid static without their consent, some of them were surprised to suddenly have joined a static.

As you can imagine, this led to some guild drama that spilled in the public channels. The static died in roughly a month. Soon after, Storm claimed again that he has cancer. On a Monday, it was 'bowel cancer' and the next day, it was 'blood cancer' and claimed that his body got used to having cancer. This raised a few concerns but were never communicated and multiple 'established' members started to distance from him & the guild.

But Storm was arguably the face of this guild since the other officers and admins did not a lot publicly. Storm posted all the guild adds, hosted all 7 raid sessions per week when all the other officers and admins hosted once a month guild missions. This frustrated Storm (understandably so) and called them out publicly. He was very hostile and tried to blackmail one of the admins.

### 4. The aftermath

One of the static member was apparently enjoying the drama so much for so long that he gathered a bunch of screenshots to laugh at from both guilds. He responded back defending the VonGuild admins and called out Storm for his bullshit. This led to Storm being banned from the guild, VonGuild dying and this drama spiraled to 6 other guilds where Storm also got banned in less than 24 hours.

I'm unsure if he still plays the game.

If you have a bad experience raiding, please find a guild that suits you. Not all commanders are the same.

TL;DR: 'Storm' wanted to become raid commander, was not liked, faked having cancer, got banned, joined a new starting guild, did the same, got banned again.

Minibia, Built with help of AI, Old School Tibia in Your Browser

1 April 2026 at 18:02

The idea was to bring that classic Tibia-style experience back, but without any friction. No downloads, no installs, no launcher. You just open a link and start playing, on your phone, tablet, or PC.

I also used AI tools during development to speed up certain parts of the process, like prototyping systems and refining gameplay mechanics, so I could focus more on capturing that authentic old-school feel.

What you can expect:

  • Classic top-down 2D gameplay, very similar to early Tibia
  • Real-time combat with that familiar old-school pacing
  • Fully playable on mobile with touch controls
  • Open-world PvP where dying actually has consequences
  • Guilds, housing, trading, and quests
  • Free to play, no pay-to-win

It’s basically a modern, lightweight take on the old Tibia era, when the game felt dangerous, social, and rewarding.

If you’ve ever played Tibia back in the day, this will feel very familiar.

You can try it at minibia.com, character creation takes just a few seconds.

I found a text-based MMO that’s way deeper than I expected

1 April 2026 at 12:38

I’ve been playing this text-based crime MMO called Torn for a while and I’m honestly surprised more people don’t know about it.

It’s basically a long-term game where you build your character, do crimes, trade, fight other players, join factions, run businesses, etc. The game has been running for like 15+ years so the economy and player base are huge.

If anyone is looking for a game like RuneScape but more crime/business/strategy style, this is probably the closest thing I’ve found.

If you decide to try it, I can help you start and send you some starter money and guide you so you don’t make beginner mistakes (the game is confusing at the start).

Just comment and I’ll help you get started.

MMORPGs like Tales of Pirates, Flyff, and Ragnarok in the big 2026

31 March 2026 at 08:40

I read somewhere that Flyff got a remake (Flyff Universe), and Gravity, the company that made Ragnarok, has multiple games releasing centered on the OG Ragnarok Online.

Kinda makes me wish that someone picks up Tales of Pirates too and announces a remake of it :(

looking for a anime style rpg mmo game name

31 March 2026 at 11:49

ive played this rpg anime game like a year or two ago but forgot its name it had character customizations it wasnt much like hair and stuff roles like gunsman, gauntlets, and swordsman in which could evolve. You could also complete the story by yourself but in safe areas u would see other players graphics were pretty good not like the old rpg games. there was also a gacha for cosmetics. setting wasn't really post-apocalyptic in places. if you have any idea of what game it might be PLZZZ and thank you

Anyone feels like MMOs have ruined them for any other type of game?

30 March 2026 at 00:18

Ever since I stopped playing WoW (for various reasons i won't get into now, but it's not because I don't love the game itself), I find myself unable to get into any other game that's not an MMO. I played New World for a while until it died, i tried GW and FF but for some reason I just could not get into them, they didn't hook me. I am now playing Soulframe, which is truly amazing, but it's not scratching the itch and the thrill I used to get from MMOs. I am endlessly scrolling steam for the past year or so, buying games and refunding them cause the single player experience feels...empty. I don't know what to do at this point. It's like my brain is not wired to like anything else. I don't have any specific question, maybe looking to see if anyone else feels the same.

Archlord actions that had effects on whole servers

30 March 2026 at 16:58

I remember in Archlord there was a system that allowed one person per server to do stuff that actually affected the whole server. It was minor, but I thought it was cool that they could send server wide messages and make it rain. I think they could send out timed buffs too, but not sure on that one.

Is there any current games that allow any amount of server wide interaction or effects like that?
